Pickles has what some might call an off-beat sense of humor. The cat has earned a reputation as a teller of tall tales — the scary kind that give some kids nightmares.

“My son Bobby went for a play date over there,” says Katherine Harshaw, a neighbor. “He came back crying, saying he was scared of the ‘dead man’s heart.’ He hasn’t slept for weeks.”
